Though this session was petite session, mom expressed a desire to include the older sibling. Before we began, I ensured mom’s satisfaction by presenting the floor designs and props, incorporating her preferences seamlessly. Big sister adorned a vintage lace dress that beautifully complemented her skin tone, while her baby brother was swathed in an emerald green wrap—a nod to dad’s childhood memories of bison and earth tones.

As I attempted to wrap baby brother in the green wrap, it became evident that he was unsettled. Mom’s intuition proved correct—he was experiencing discomfort, likely due to gas. In such moments, my experience as a newborn photographer guides me to adapt and prioritize the comfort of the baby. Recognizing the strong bond between siblings, I shifted focus, allowing big sister to embrace her role in comforting her newborn brother.

Placing big sister in position and gently positioning her baby brother in her arms, I observed a remarkable transformation. Baby brother visibly relaxed, responding to his sister’s soothing presence. Engaging big sister in conversation, I encouraged her to share her thoughts about her baby brother, knowing that her voice would bring solace to the newborn.

After a few tender moments, baby brother surrendered to slumber, nestled safely in his sister’s embrace. Big sister’s natural inclination for posing and the genuine affection she felt for her newborn brother radiated through each click of the camera, resulting in breathtaking images that captured their bond.

Once the siblings’ session concluded, baby brother was ready to continue his individual newborn session, now more relaxed and content. Mom and dad marveled at his peaceful demeanor, jokingly suggesting they return in three hours for his next nap.
